Key Challenges We Solve
Visitors getting lost
Large outdoor areas are hard to navigate, and visitors often lose their way across sprawling trails and zones.
Limited visibility
Trails, amenities, and attractions are difficult to discover when there's no interactive map to surface them.
Crowd movement
Managing visitor flow across busy outdoor spaces is difficult without real-time spatial insight.
Accessibility concerns
Diverse visitor groups need accessible routes and guidance that paper maps simply can't provide.
Safety communication gaps
Emergency response and safety messaging rarely reach visitors once they're out in the park.

Common questions from park teams
If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
How do visitors use the app without cell signal on remote trails?
OuterMap apps download the entire park map and all POI data to the visitor's device once. After that, navigation, trail metadata, and points of interest work fully offline — visitors can leave cell coverage and still follow trails, see their position via GPS, and read POI descriptions.
Can I show trail difficulty, length and elevation?
Yes. Every trail in OuterMap carries metadata for distance, elevation gain, difficulty rating, surface type, ADA accessibility, and status (open / closed / maintenance). Visitors filter by these fields to find trails that match their group.
How do I update the app when trails close for the season?
Open the admin dashboard, toggle the trail or POI to Closed, set a reopening date, and save. Visitor apps refresh the next time the user opens them — no App Store resubmission needed. You can also schedule closures in advance for predictable seasonal patterns.
Do visitors need to install a new app, or does it work in a browser?
Both. Visitors install your branded iOS or Android app (recommended for offline use), or they can use the web version directly from your park website with no install. The data is identical across both.
Does it support multiple parks under one system?
Yes. State park systems and conservancy networks use OuterMap's multi-site admin to manage dozens of parks from a single dashboard, with one branded app that lets visitors switch between locations. Each park has its own admin team and access controls.
