Common questions from museum teams
If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
Can we add audio tour content to the app?
Yes. Each point of interest supports audio files (MP3 or AAC), images, text descriptions, and accessibility notes. Visitors tap a gallery or exhibit, hit play, and listen on their own headphones. Multiple audio tracks per POI for language variants or curated tours.
How do we handle temporary exhibits and rotating shows?
Mark exhibits as active for a specific date range. The app automatically shows them only while the show is open, then hides them when it closes. Schedule the next exhibit in advance — it appears the day the show opens. No app updates required.
Multiple languages — does the app translate?
OuterMap stores text and audio per language. Upload English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Mandarin, or any other locale your visitors speak. The app auto-selects based on the visitor's device language with a manual override. The Enterprise plan supports unlimited languages.
Does it work offline inside galleries with no Wi-Fi?
Yes. Visitors download the museum map, all exhibit content, and all audio on first open — typically over Wi-Fi at the museum entrance. After that, everything works offline as they move through galleries, even in basement and concrete-walled rooms.
How do we surface accessibility info — wheelchair routes, sensory-friendly hours?
Mark accessible entrances, ramps, elevators, and routes per gallery. Tag exhibits with sensory-friendly indicators (audio, lighting, crowd level). Visitors filter the map to show only the accessible options that fit them.
