Cookie Policy
Short version: We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to understand which features are useful. Non-essential cookies (analytics, marketing) require your consent and you can change your mind at any time.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owners. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage, pixels, SDKs — are covered by this policy too, and we refer to all of them as "cookies".
2. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function. Cannot be disabled in our consent banner.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| outermap_consent | Cookie | Stores your cookie consent choices (which categories you allowed). Set the moment you click any button on the consent banner. | 12 months |
| outermap_sticky_dismissed | sessionStorage | Remembers if you closed the sticky "Start Free" bar so it doesn't reappear in the same tab. | Session |
| outermap_session | Cookie | Authenticated session state for the admin dashboard. Only set after sign-in. | Session |
| outermap_csrf | Cookie | Protects authenticated forms against cross-site request forgery. Only set after sign-in. | Session |
Analytics
Helps us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Requires consent in regions that require opt-in (EU/UK/India/etc.).
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes unique visitors. | 24 months |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics 4 | Session state and aggregated page views. | 24 months |
Marketing
Only set if you opt in. Currently unused — we will update this list before enabling any marketing pixels.
3. Your choices
- Consent banner: choose which categories to accept on your first visit. You can change your choices any time by reopening the banner from the footer.
- Browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Doing so may break parts of the Service that depend on strictly-necessary cookies.
- Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control: we honour GPC signals where required by law.
- Opt out of Google Analytics: install the official browser add-on.
4. International users
If you are in the EU, UK, India, or another region with strict cookie laws, non-essential cookies will not be set until you give explicit consent. If you are in a region that does not require opt-in, you can still opt out at any time using the controls above.
5. Children
OuterMap is a B2B product. We do not knowingly set cookies for users under 16.
6. Changes
We update this Cookie Policy whenever we add, remove, or change cookies. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will trigger a fresh consent prompt.

Questions? Email support@outermap.com.
This document is a starting template. Once GA4 and any marketing pixels are wired up, update the tables above with the exact cookie names and durations Google sets in production. A consent management platform (CMP) such as Cookiebot, Osano, or Iubenda is recommended for full GDPR/DPDP compliance.
